Objectives for this Tutorial
Generally: To save completed images for use in printed format and for use on the web.
Specifically: On completion of this lesson, you will be able to:
- Save an image for use in print applications
- Save an image for use on the web
Once an image is completed in Photoshop, if the image is to be used in another application, such as a print application or for publication on the web, then it needs to be saved into the appropriate format.
The best formats to choose for print applications such as a desktop publishing application are TIFF and EPS. The best formats for publication on the internet are JPEG and GIF.
Note: You can continue to edit an image in different file formats, but a number of Photoshop tools will not be available.
Save to TIFF File Format
TIFF file formats incorporate lossless compression, which means that you can save an image into a fairly compact file without losing any image quality. TIFF is supported by almost all graphics applications and DTP applications.
To save an image into a TIFF file format
- From the File menu, select Save As... (SpeedKey: Shift + Ctrl + S)
The Save As dialogue box is displayed.

- Click Save
The TIFF Options dialogue box is displayed.
